Center School awarded PDE’s Safe Schools Grant

Center School serves students with learning disabilities from four different counties and 14 different school districts.  It strives to achieve safety in all endeavors for all who enter its building.  This is Center School’s primary focus as research has shown that if students are in a safe and secure environment, they are more likely to achieve academic success.

This was the impetus for Center School to apply for the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office for Safe School’s Safe Schools Targeted Grants.  With the support of Representative Nancy Guenst (District 152) and Representative Ben Sanchez (District 153), Center School was awarded $17,666.25 to further enhance the safety and security measures within their building.

With this award, Center School will be installing two robust safety systems: a keyless access system and a visitor management system.  The keyless access system will remove the need for traditional keys and provide an alarm system if a door is left open, therefore more actively protecting the security of the school and those within it at all times. The visitor management system will allow the school to vet and screen all visitors more thoroughly through a secure portal prior to entering the building.

Center School is appreciative of the support of the Department of Education and thanks Representative Guenst and Representative Sanchez for their commitment to the safety and well-being of the Center School community as well as their commitment to the safety of the local community as a whole.
