School Nurse
The school nurse plays a vital role in the health and well-being of students, contributing to a safe and healthy school environment. Center School’s School Nurse is on-site every day and is accessible to students and staff as needed.
The responsibilities of our School Nurse can be broadly categorized into the following areas:
Health Services
- First Aid and Emergency Care: Provide immediate care to students and staff who become injured or ill during school hours.
- Chronic Condition Management: Manage and monitor students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes), ensuring they receive appropriate care and medications.
- Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications to students as needed, following legal and school policies.
Health Education
- Health Counseling: Provide students with guidance on health-related issues, such as nutrition, exercise, mental health, and hygiene.
- Health Promotion: Educate the school community on various health topics through presentations.
Health Screenings and Assessments
- Routine Screenings: Conduct screenings for vision, hearing, and other health issues to identify potential problems early.
- Individual Assessments: Assess students' health complaints, monitor their vital signs, and provide referrals to healthcare providers when necessary.
Care Coordination
- Collaboration with Families: Work with parents and school staff to create care plans for students with special health needs.
- Crisis Intervention: Participate in crisis management, including mental health emergencies, and coordinate with counselors and other staff for appropriate interventions.
Public Heatlh Responsibilites
- Infection Control: Monitor and respond to outbreaks of contagious diseases within the school, implementing control measures to prevent the spread of illness.
- Immunization Compliance: Ensure that students meet state and local immunization requirements, maintaining accurate health records.
Advocacy
- Student Advocacy: Advocate for the health and safety of students within the school environment, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to succeed academically and socially.
- Policy Development: Assist in developing and implementing health-related policies and procedures within the school.
